In response to several requests, the CSCF will make the beta 3 version of Netscape available on the exp tree tomorrow, 12/20. The CSCF will offer very limited support for this beta product. That support will be limited to making the product available and issuing instructions as to its use. Questions regarding functionality and/or bugs will not be investigated.
All users interested in using the new version of Netscape are STRONGLY
encouraged to read and understand the release notes located at:

PLEASE NOTE: Netscape 2.0b3 is not 100% backwardly compatible with Netscape 1.12. If you choose to allow Netscape 2.0b3 delete your 1.12 files you will have to re-create them if you choose to use the older version again. There may be other compatibility problems. The CSCF can not guarentee that you will be able to swap between both versions or be able to perserve you existing netscape environment once you use the 2.0b3 release.
PLEASE NOTE: Java apps are NOT supported in the 2.0b3 release for OSF/1 and AIX. The version for SunOS 4.1.X is very buggy. For Solaris, SunOS, IRIX and HPUX users who wish to run Java apps, you must copy /exp/rcf/share/X11R5/netscape-2.0b3/moz2_0.car to your $HOME/.netscape directory. For SunOS 4.1.X users you must set the variable $XNLSPATH to /exp/rcf/share/X11R5/netscape-2.0b3/nls. If you experience problem with Motif keysyms, set the $XKEYSYMDB environment variable to /exp/rcf/share/X11R5/netscape-2.0b3.
The 2.0b3 version of Netscape will be installed as:
/exp/rcf/share/X11R5/bin/netscape-2.0b3 for Solaris, SunOS, IRIX, HPUX,
OSF/1, and AIX.
REMINDER: There is no version of Netscape for ULTRIX.

Good News:
Netscape version 2.0 will be installed on the exp tree tomorrow for all
UNIX platforms except Ultrix.
Netscape 2.0 will be installed as /exp/rcf/share/X11R5/bin/netscape.new
We will allow two weeks for testing the new version. Barring any reported problems the current netscape (version 1.12) will be renamed netscape.old and the 2.0 version will be renamed netscape.
PLEASE NOTE:
Coinciding with tomorrow's installation of Netscape 2.0 we will be removing! the beta versions of Netscape 2.0 (b3 and b5).
Netscape changes: Netscape 2.01 will be installed for all architectures except Ultrix effective tomorrow. The current /exp/rcf/share/X11R5/bin/netscape (version 1.12) will be renamed to netscape.old.
Netscape 2.01 addressed security concerns related to netscape 2.0. All users of netscape 1.12 and netscape 2.0 are encouraged to read the README file located at:
/exp/rcf/share/X11R5/netscape-2.01/README and the release notes located at: http://home.netscape.com/eng/mozilla/2.01/relnotes/unix-2.01.html.Current users of netscape 1.12 should create a link to /exp/rcf/common/X11R5/netscape-2.01/moz2_01.zip in their ~/.netscape directory:
cd ~/.netscape ln -s /exp/rcf/common/X11R5/netscape-2.01/moz2_01.zip moz2_01.zipCurrent users of netscape 2.0 should remove their existing link to moz2_0.zip in their ~/.netscape directories and add the above link.
